SOUND FIELD PROGRAM DESCRIPTIONS

This unit is equipped with a variety of precise digital decoders that allow you to enjoy multichannel playback from almost any sound source (stereo or multichannel). This unit is also equipped with a YAMAHA digital sound field processing (DSP) chip containing several sound field programs which you can use to enhance your playback experience. Most of these sound field programs are precise digital recreations of actual acoustic environments found in famous concert halls, music venues, and movie theaters.

The YAMAHA CINEMA DSP modes are compatible with all Dolby Digital, DTS, and Dolby Surround sources. Set the input mode to AUTO (see page 36) to enable this unit to automatically switch to the appropriate digital decoder according to the input signal.

Notes

•This unit’s DSP sound field programs are recreations of real-world acoustic environments made from precise measurements taken in the actual hall, etc. Thus you may notice variations in the strength of the reflections coming from the front, back, left and right.

•Feel free to choose a sound field program based on your listening preference, and not purely on the name of the program itself.

For movie/video sources

You can select from the following sound fields when playing movie or video sources. The sound fields marked “MULTI” can be used with multi-channel sources, like DVD, digital TV, etc. Those marked “2-CH” can be used with 2-channel (stereo) sources like TV programs, video tapes, etc.

STEREO:	Downmixes multi-channel sources to 2 channel (left and right) or plays back 2-channel

MUSIC VIDEO	This program lends an enthusiastic atmosphere to the sound, giving you the feeling you are at
	an actual jazz or rock concert.
ENTERTAINMENT:	This program adds a deep and spatial feeling to video game sounds.
Game
TV THEATER:	This program is provided for reproducing monaural video sources (such as old movies). The
Mono Movie	program produces the optimum reverberation to create sound depth using only the presernce
	sound field.
TV THEATER:	Though the presence sound field is relatively narrow, the surround sound field employs the
Variety/Sports	sound environment of a large concert hall. This effect enhances the experience of watching
	various TV programs such as news, variety shows, music programs or sports programs.
		MULTI
MOVIE THEATER:	CINEMA DSP processing. This program creates the extremely wide sound field of a 70-mm
		2-CH
Spectacle	movie theater. It precisely reproduces the source sound in detail, making both the video and the
	sound field incredibly real. This is ideal for any kind of video source encoded with Dolby
	Surround, Dolby Digital or DTS (especially large-scale movie productions).
MOVIE THEATER:	CINEMA DSP processing. This program clearly reproduces dialog and sound effects in the
Sci-Fi	latest sound form for science fiction films, thus creating a broad and expansive cinematic space
	amid silence. You can enjoy science fiction films in a virtual-space sound field that includes
	Dolby Surround, Dolby Digital and DTS-encoded software employing the most advanced
	techniques.
MOVIE THEATER:	CINEMA DSP processing. This program is ideal for precisely reproducing the sound design of
Adventure	the newest 70-mm and multichannel soundtrack films. The sound field is made to be similar to
	that of the newest movie theaters, so the reverberations of the sound field itself are restrained
	as much as possible.
MOVIE THEATER:	CINEMA DSP processing. This program is for reproducing sounds from 70-mm and
General	multichannel soundtrack films, and is characterized by soft and extensive sound field.
