Put the used card into MACh Speed anti-static bag. If you ever have a problem, it may be handy to be able to use the old card while troubleshooting the system.

Installing the Software

This chapter will provide the information you need to enable the MACh Speeds incredible backside cache. It also provides informa- tion on XLR8’s Processor Info Utility, which gives excellent feed- back on the CPU card’s current status.

This chapter will instruct you on how to:

Install the XLR8 software

Use the XLR8 Processor Info Utility

Use the MACh Speed G3 Upgrade Control

Your package includes the XLR8 Software diskette. This diskette includes everything needed to enable and periodically review the G3 upgrade card.

The software controls the activation of the Backside Cache and controls the ratios it operates at. When first installed, the MACh Speed’s backside cache will not be enabled. Follow the instructions below to complete the installation of the software and enable the backside cache.

1. After you ha ve installed your MACh Speed G3

Upg rade Car d … Copy the Software to your startup disk.

After booting your Macintosh, insert the floppy disk.

Review the readme file on the disk for any last minute changes or updates.

Copy the MACh Speed G3 Control file to the Control Panels folder in the System of your start-up System drive.

Copy the Prodcessor Info file into any Non-System folder.
