A new firmware update is a binary file which will be sent to you by email or which you can download from the supplier web site. If the firmware file is compressed (file suffix .zip) then you must unzip it before you can proceed. Under the Windows operating system you may use WinZip from http://www.winzip.com/ for uncompression. Other operating systems might provide a program called unzip.

Before you can start updating the firmware of your DKVM-IP1 switch the new uncompressed firmware file has to be accessible on the system that you use for connecting to the DKVM-IP1 switch.

Updating the firmware is a three-stage process:

Firstly, the new firmware file is uploaded onto the DKVM-IP1 switch. In order to do that you need to select the file on your local system using the button “Browse” of the Upload Firmware panel. Once the firmware file has been uploaded, it is checked whether it is a valid firmware file and whether there were any transmission errors. In case of any error the Upload Firmware function will be aborted.

Secondly, if everything went well, you see the Update Firmware panel. The panel shows you the version number of the currently running firmware and the version number of the uploaded firmware. Pressing the button “Update” will store the new version and substitute the old one completely.

Warning

This process is not reversible and might take some minutes. Make sure the DKVM-IP1 switch 's power supply will not be interrupted during the update process, because this may cause an unusable card.

Thirdly, after the firmware has been stored, the panel will request you to reset the DKVM-IP1 switch manually. Half a minute after the reset, the DKVM-IP1 switch will run with the new firmware version and should be accessible. However, you are requested to login once again.

Warning

The three-stage firmware update process and complete consistency check are making a mistake in updating the firmware almost impossible. However, only experienced staff members or administrators should perform a firmware update. Make sure the DKVM-IP1 switch 's power supply will not be interrupted!
