13. Tips & Tricks.

13.1.Printingonheatsensitivemedia:

Whenprintingonheatsensitivemedia,mediacancome upwards(headstrikes) butalsoexpandsinwidthwhenitisheatedupbypa ssingUVlamps. Thiscannotonlycauseheadstrikes,butduetothee xpansionduringprint,the differentprintpasseswillnotalignproperlywithe arlierprintedpasses.Thiswill mostlybevisibleaslighterzones(spots)attheedge sofyourmedia(inboth directions).

Inthesecasesyouneedtominimizetheamountofheat thatreachesyourmedia, byfollowingguidelines:

PrintUnidirectional.Thisworksondifferentaspects togetherandismost likelythebestsolution:

Aftereachpass,themediacancooldownagainduring

Makesurethecarriagemovesovertheleftmediaedge ,onpointofreturn(use awhitetrailerinWasatchattherightsideofyour image).

forrigidmedia:putarigidofthesameheightinfr ontandbehindthemedia; Thatwayyouavoidthatopenairholesatthestartand theendoftheplate willmakethevacuumlowerandallowthemediatomove duringexpansionby heat.

Ifthisisnotsufficientornotwanted,followingacti onscanbedone:

Ripandprintyourimageinalowernumberofpasses; Thiswillreducethe numberoftimesthatalamppassesthemedia.

Selectahighershuttlespeed;Itwillnotalwaysbe possible,andinfluences certainlytheprintquality.

Setaheadheightof2to2.5mm.(AdjusttheBidir alignmentifprinted bidirectional);Printqualitywillgetlower.

Forsmallermedia:placethemediaatthe2ndregis terpins(leftside),so you’llallowthesurfacetocooldownmoreinbetweenthe longerprintpass.

Onverysmallmedia:masktheconveyorbeltareaaroun dthemedia,ensuring astrongerlocalvacuum.(Usesheetsofpaper).

Usealeadingwhiteborderof15cminWasatchinfr ontoftherealimage data.Thiswilltakeyouafewextraprintingpasses butthiswilltakecarethat theborderofyourmediaisalreadyheatedupsteadily permovingpassand conditioned(extended)againstthetimethatthefirs tdropsarejettedontoit.
