Chapter 8. Security

This chapter provides information about how to protect the information stored on your tablet.

Protecting data against viruses

Your tablet is preinstalled with McAfee antivirus programs to help you to detect and eliminate viruses.

McAfee Secure is a mobile security service that enables you to protect data, safely connect to the Internet, and securely browse and shop the Web. It also ensures privacy in the event of theft and enhances the possibility of recovering your tablet.

To use McAfee Secure, you have to register with McAfee first by doing the following:

1.Open the application library and touch the McAfee Secure icon.

2.Follow the instructions on the screen to register with McAfee.

If you are using your tablet in an enterprise environment, McAfee Enterprise Mobility Management enables your company’s IT personnel to control and configure your tablet to provide secure and easy access to corporate mobile applications.

To download McAfee Enterprise Mobility Management, touch the applications icon from a Home screen to open the application library. Touch the McAfee Business icon. Then touch Download here. For instructions on how to use it, consult your IT administrator.

Locking the tablet screen

To protect your tablet data against unauthorized access, lock the screen and set an unlock mode for unlocking the screen. The screen unlock mode can be a personal or corporate password, a PIN, or a pattern. After a screen unlock mode is set and the screen is locked, the next time you turn on your tablet or wake up the screen, you must type the password or the PIN, or draw the unlock pattern to unlock it.

To enable the screen unlock function and set up a password, PIN, or a pattern to unlock the screen, do the following:

1.Open Android Settings and touch Security Screen lock to open a list of options.

2.Touch one of the following options to set up the screen unlock mode:

None: No password, PIN, or pattern is required to unlock the screen. Select this option to disable the screen unlock function.

Slide: This is the default unlock mode. For more information, see “Screen lock mode” on page 17.

Pattern: A pattern is a unique way you set to unlock the screen by using your finger to draw a pattern. The first time you try to set a pattern, a short tutorial about creating an unlock pattern is displayed to guide you through the process of setting one.

PIN: Type a series of numbers.

Password: Type a series of characters, numbers, or a combination of both.

Corporate logon: Touch this option to use the same user ID and password you use to log on to your company’s Active Directory domain to unlock your tablet screen.

Note: Make a note of your password, PIN, or pattern in case you forget it.

3. Touch OK to save your setting.
