Attention:

For the Corporate Logon mode, after 10 incorrect attempts to unlock your tablet, your tablet will reset itself to the factory default state. This process erases all user-created data from the tablet, including Google or other e-mail account settings, system and application data and settings, and downloaded applications.

For other unlock modes, if you forget the password, PIN, or pattern, contact Lenovo support for system reset.

Encrypting the tablet internal storage

To protect the data that is stored on your tablet internal storage from unauthorized access, you can encrypt the internal storage by doing the following:

Important: Before you start the encryption process, connect your tablet to a standard ac power outlet to ensure a steady and sustained supply of electrical power.

1.Open Android Settings and touch Security Encrypt tablet.

2.Follow the instructions on the screen to encrypt your accounts, settings, downloaded applications, and so on.

Encrypting the flash media card

If you use a flash media card to store confidential data or personal information on your tablet, encrypt the card to prevent the data from being accessed if the card is ever lost or stolen.

Encrypting a flash media card

To encrypt a flash media card, do the following:

Important: Before you start the encryption process, connect your tablet to a standard ac power outlet to ensure a steady and sustained supply of electrical power.

1.Set up a screen unlock password or PIN if you did not set one before. See “Locking the tablet screen” on page 53.

2.Open Android Settings and touch Security Encrypt data on removable SD Card. A message is displayed to inform you that all data on the flash media card will be encrypted.

3.Type the password or PIN that is set for unlocking the screen.

4.Touch OK to confirm the encryption. A status box is displayed showing the progress of the encryption.

5.When the encryption process finishes, the status box closes. You can resume normal operation of your tablet.

Notes:

While encrypting, you can do nothing with your tablet until the process finishes. The time it takes to encrypt depends on the flash media card space volume, file size, file type, number of files, and so on.

The encryption process copies the data on the flash media card to the tablet internal storage first. Therefore, if the amount of space on the tablet internal storage is less than the amount of data on the installed card, you will be prompted to move some data from the card to another storage medium.

Reading data from an encrypted flash media card

If you try to read the data on the encrypted card on your tablet, the operation is the same as usual. For example, if you want to view the audio files or pictures stored on the encrypted card, just insert the card and use the Android music player to play audio files or go to the gallery to view pictures, or use another program such as Documents to Go to open a file. However, if you use another tablet to read the encrypted card, you
