DNS servers

The Switched Rack PDU cannot send any e-mail messages unless the IP address of the primary DNS server is defined (see DNS servers).

The Switched Rack PDU will wait a maximum of 15 seconds for a response from the primary or (if specified) the secondary DNS server. If the Switched Rack PDU does not receive a response within that time, e-mail cannot be sent. Therefore, use DNS servers that are on the same segment as the Switched Rack PDU or on a nearby segment (but not across a WAN).

Once you define the IP addresses of the DNS servers, verify that DNS is working correctly. Enter the DNS name of a computer on your network to test whether you can look up the IP address for that DNS name.

SMTP settings

The Email option in the Network menu accesses the following settings:

Setting

by the Switched Rack PDU.

From Address

Note: The SMTP server’s configuration may require that you use a

valid user account on the server for this setting. See the

server’s documentation for more information.
