Recording functions

Record the current programme

Your DTH 8000 has recording functions similar to a video recorder. It records programmes on DVD (DVD+R, DVD+RW) type discs. The recording time depends on the quality and can be adjusted according to the time remaining on a disc or can be automatically adjusted if the SmartRecord™ function has been activated (see page 52).The recording may be immediate or deferred. Deferred programming is explained on page 23. For immediate recording follow the instructions below.

5.Open the DVD tray by pressing the OPEN/CLOSE key. Put in a disc DVD+RW or DVD+R. The printed side upwards, (double-sided discs have concentric marks around the central hole on each side of the disc). Close the tray using the OPEN/CLOSE or PLAY key.Where necessary select a recording quality or activate the SmartRecord™ function in order to automatically adapt the quality in relation to the time remaining on the disc. See the Recording Quality paragraph and / or SmartRecord™ paragraph on page 52.

Note: Disc Formatting - When you insert a DVD+RW disc for the first time, your DTH 8000 must first format the disc. This operation may take several minutes (up to 10 minutes), however you can begin recording on the disc shortly after beginning the formatting process (after around 10 to 20 seconds).

6.Press once on the REC key of the remote control or on the RECORD key on the façade of your DTH 8000 to record the current programme until the end of the disc.To record for a set period press several times on the key. Each press increases the recording time by 30 minutes up to a limit of 3 hours.

Recording starts.

RECORD is displayed for a few moments on the display of the DTH 8000.The red signal lamp on the façade lights and confirms that recording has started.

The information banner appears for several seconds on the screen of your television. The information displayed confirms the channel and programme being recorded.

Note: after several seconds the information banner disappears. You can redisplay it using the INFO key on the remote control.

Changing the channel during recording is not possible. To watch another channel during the recording session, select it directly on the television set, using its own remote control handset.

With each recording session the name and programme parameters recorded on the disc are automatically placed in the library memory of your DTH 8000. The library can contain up to 200 programme names recorded on different discs.

To watch your recorded programmes see the Disc menu, details on page 42. To consult the library see the Disc Library menu, page 28.

Stop recording

Press the STOP button twice.

With a DVD+R disc, if you do not have another recording to make, you need to "Finalize" the disc in order that it can be read by other DVD+R compatible players. Closing a DVD+R disc is described in detail on page 44 (Finalize Disc function). If you do not close a DVD+R disc, it will still be possible to make other recordings on it later on, providing there is enough disc space. You can therefore safely store it.You can also erase recordings, but you will lose the corresponding recording time which cannot be used to record other titles.

With DVD+RW discs this function does not exist. It is replaced by a function that renders the disc compatible in such cases where you have added or removed chapter bookmarks using the edit menu. For some players, it is necessary to render the disc compatible even though you haven’t carried out modifications to the

Note: if you only press once on the STOP key, the confirmation window appears. Press a second time to definitively stop the recording or select continue using the and OK keys. At the end of each recording, your DTH 8000 takes a few seconds to prepare the start menu of the disc. This menu is formed from representative images from each title. To view a recording, see page 42.
