iPod® (Optional)

An iPod® can be connected to this unit.

iPod connection can be made in two ways using the USB connection cable, or directly connecting the iPod using the FULL SPEED™ connection cable (KCE-422i).

When the IVA-W502E is connected by using the cable, the controls on the iPod are not functional.

Only 5th generation iPod, the first generation iPod nano and the second generation iPod nano can be connected via a USB device.

Set AUX+ to OFF when an iPod is connected via the FULL SPEEDTM connection cable (refer to “Setting the AUX+ Mode” on page 37).

If the Bluetooth Box and an iPod are connected at the same time, be sure to disconnect the iPod from the Bluetooth Box while turning ACC to OFF.

To watch the video screen of the file in the Video iPod (fifth generation iPod), using the USB connection and the Parking Brake must be engaged.

About iPods usable with this unit

The unit can be used with the fourth generation and above iPod, iPod photo, iPod mini or the first, second generation iPod nano only. However, future generation iPod compatibility cannot be guaranteed.

If the unit is used with iPod software versions of iTunes earlier than 7.1.0.59, correct function and performance are not guaranteed.

Playback

1 Touch [SOURCE] on the main source screen.

The SOURCE selection screen is displayed.

2 Touch [iPod]*1 or [iPod-2]*2.

The display shows the iPod or iPod-2 mode screen.

*1 Only when the iPod is connected by using the USB connector.

*2Only when the iPod is connected by using the iPod direct connector.

3 Touch [] or [] to select the desired song.

Return to the beginning of the current song:

Touch [].

Fast backward the current song:

Touch and hold [].

Advance to the beginning of the next song:

Touch [].

Fast forward the current song:

Touch and hold [].

4 To pause playback, touch [/ ].

Touching [/ ] again will resume playback.

If a song is playing on the iPod when it is connected to the IVA-W502E, it will continue playing after the connection.

If you listen to an episode from a selected podcast or audiobook, the episode can be changed by pressing EPISODE [ ] or [ ].

An episode may have several chapters. The chapter can be changed

by pressing [] or [].

Display mode can be changed by touching [WIDE] when an iPod compatible video is connected by using USB connector. For details, refer to “Switching Display Modes” (page 26).

If the artist, album or song name, created in iTunes, has too many characters, songs may not be played back when connected to the IVA-W502E. Therefore, a maximum of 250 characters is recommended. The maximum number of characters for the head unit is 128 (128 byte).

Some characters may not be correctly displayed.

“NO SUPPORT” is displayed when text information is not compatible with the IVA-W502E.

Searching for a desired Song

An iPod can contain hundreds of songs. By keeping these songs organized in playlists, the IVA-W502E can use these to ease song searches.

Using the search mode’s individual hierarchy, you can narrow down your search as shown in the table below.

Video search mode depends on the iPod. If the specification of the iPod is changed, the search mode on this unit will also be changed.

For example: Searching by Artist name

The following example explains how an ARTISTS search is performed. Another search mode can be used for the same operation, although the hierarchy differs.

Searching by artist name

1 Touch [ ].

The search mode is activated, and the search list screen appears.

When an iPod compatible video is connected by using USB connector. Select the MUSIC or VIDEOS search mode by touching [ ] at first. If VIDEOS mode is selected, the Video playlists/ Movies/Music Videos/TV Shows/Video Podcasts search mode may be used depending on the connected iPod. If MUSIC mode is selected the operation is as the same as follow.

Touching [ ] for at least 2 seconds will return to last search mode when the iPod is connected through the USB connector.

2 Touch [ ] of ARTISTS.

The ARTISTS search screen is displayed.
