Troubleshooting

First, try out the following procedures (P91–96).

If the problem is not resolved, it may be improved by selecting [RESET] (P23) on the [SETUP] menu when taking pictures.

Batteries and power source

The camera turns off immediately even when battery power is full. The remaining battery power is low even if new batteries are inserted.

Depending on the battery brand and the operating temperature, or if exhausted batteries are used, the remaining battery power may not be displayed accurately.

The camera cannot be operated even when it is turned on.

Are the batteries inserted correctly? (P14)

Use sufficiently charged batteries when using Ni-MH batteries.

The LCD monitor turns off while the camera is turned on.

Is [AUTO LCD OFF] (P22) of the [ECONOMY] mode active?

Press the shutter button halfway to cancel these modes.

Are the batteries exhausted?

The camera turns off soon after turning it on.

Are the batteries exhausted?

If you leave the camera on, the batteries will be exhausted.

Turn the camera off frequently by using Economy Mode (P22) etc.

Shooting

The picture cannot be recorded.

Is the mode correctly set? (P17)

Is there any memory capacity left on the built-in memory or the card? Before recording, delete some pictures. (P33)

The recorded pictures are pale.

The picture can become whitish if there is dirt e.g. fingerprints on the lens.

If the lens is dirty, turn on the camera, eject the lens barrel (P10) and gently wipe the lens surface with a soft dry cloth.

The area around where the pictures were taken becomes dark.

Was this picture taken with the flash at the close range when the zoom is near [W] (1×)?

Zoom in a little, and then take the pictures. (P30)

The recorded picture is too bright or dark.

Check that the exposure is correctly compensated. (P41)

2 or 3 pictures are taken at one time.

Set other than [HI-SPEED BURST] (P46) in Scene Mode or set [BURST] (P58) to [OFF].
