DVD MENU Settings

Select monitor type

Most movie DVD discs are recorded for wide-screen TVs with a height/width ratio of 16:9. It is possible to optimize playback of these wide-screen TV images for viewing on a regular TV with a height/width ratio of 4:3.

1. Open the DVD MENU.

See page 48, “Opening the DVD MENU”.

2. Move the pointer to MONITOR TYPE using the 5/° cursors.

3. Use the 2/3cursors to select monitor type.

Pressing the cursors toggles between the following monitor configurations.

4:3 LB (Letter Box Conversion):

Select this option for playback on a TV with a height/width ratio of 4:3. The image will be displayed with a black bar at the top and bottom of the screen. The left and right edges of the image are preserved.

4:3 PS (Pan-scan Conversion):

Select this option for playback on a TV with a height/width ratio of 4:3. The image will be displayed with the right and left edges cropped. No black gap will appear at the top and bottom of the screen.

WIDE (16 : 9) (Wide Television Screen 16 : 9):

Select this option for playback on a wide-screen TV.

Note:

If the DVD disc is not optimized for Pan-scan, the image will be shown in 4:3 LB (Letter Box Conversion), even if 4:3 PS (Pan- scan Conversion) is selected.

Screen saver settings

Set the screen saver to prevent screen burn.

1. Open the DVD MENU.

See page 48, “Opening the DVD MENU”.

2. Move the pointer to SCREEN SAVER using the 5/° cursors.

3. Use the 2/3cursors to select a screen saver mode.

Pressing the cursors toggles between the following screen saver modes: MODE 1, MODE 2, DIMMER, and OFF.

MODE 1

: The “screen saver” picture appears and scrolls.

MODE 2

: The “screen saver” picture appears and does not

 

scroll.

DIMMER : The current picture gets dark.

OFF

: The screen saver function is off.

Notes:

Select a different mode if the screen flickers when the screen saver is set to MODE 1.

When DIMMER is selected, in addition to the screen saver function, the display window will also be dimmed. To prevent this, change to a different mode.

Please be wary of screen burn when the screen saver is turned OFF.
