Motor Brushes

The electric motors that power your power chair use carbon brushes. These brushes may become susceptible to wear over a long periodoftime.Themotorbrushesarethetwocontactslocatedinsidethemotorassemblythatsupplypowertothemotor.Theyare designedtoprovideseveralthousandhoursofoperation. However,ifthebrushesbecomedirtywithcarbondepositsorwearout,the motorwillrunpoorlyornotatall.

CAUTION! If an inspection determines excessive wear on the brushes, they must be replaced or motor damage will result. Failure to maintain the brushes could void your power chair’s warranty.

To inspect orreplace the motorbrushes:

1.Removetheseatandbodyshroud.

2.Unscrewthemotorbrushcaps.Seefigure25.

3.Removethebrushes.

4.Inspectforwear.Seefigure26.

5.Replace brushes, if necessary. Contact your authorized Pride providerforreplacementbrushes.

When to See Your Authorized Pride Provider for Service

The following symptoms could indicate a serious problem with your powerchair.Ifnecessary,contactyourauthorizedPrideprovider.When calling,havethemodelnumber,serialnumber,natureoftheproblem,and thetroublecodeifavailable.

Corrective Maintenance

If the battery condition meter does not light up when you turn on the power:

νChecktheharnessconnections.Makesuretheyaretight.

νCheckthecircuitbreaker.Resetitifnecessary.

νCheck the battery connections.

If the aboveconditionsprovenormal,youcanloadtestthebatterieswithabatteryloadtester.Thesetestersareavailableatautomotive partsstores.Disconnectbothbatteriesbeforeloadtestingandfollowthedirectionsthatcomewiththeloadtester.Ifeitheroneofthe batteriesfailstheloadtest,replacebothofthem.Ifyourpowerchairstilldoesnotpowerup,contactyourauthorizedPrideprovider.
