Troubleshooting
If you experience any of the following difficulties while using the system, use this troubleshooting guide to help remedy the problem before requesting repairs. Should any problem persist, consult your nearest Sony dealer.
Power
The power is not turned on.
,Check that the AC power cord is connected securely.
Picture
There is no picture.
,The connecting cords are not connected securely.
,The connecting cords are damaged. Replace it with a new one.
,The recorder is not connected to the correct TV input jack (page
,The video input on the TV is not set so that you can view pictures from the system.
Picture noise appears.
,The disc is dirty or flawed. Clean the disc.
,If the picture output from your system goes through your VCR to get to your TV, the copy- protection signal applied to some DVD programs could affect picture quality. If you still experience problems even when you connect your system directly to your TV, try connecting your system to your TV’s
Even though you set the TV aspect in
SETUP menu, the picture does not fill
the screen.
,The aspect ratio of the disc is fixed on your DVD.
The picture is black and white.
,Depending on the TV, the picture on the screen becomes black and white when you play a disc recorded in the PAL or SECAM color system.
Sound
There is no sound.
,The connecting cord is not connected securely.
,Make sure you connect the recorder to the audio input connectors on the amplifier (page
,Make sure you select the appropriate position on the amplifier so that you can listen to the sound from the recorder.
,Make sure you select you turn on the TV and the amplifier.
,The protective device on the recorder has been activated because of a short circuit. Turn off the system, eliminate the
,The audio connecting cord is damaged. Replace it with a new one.
,The system is in pause mode or in Slow- motion Play mode. Press H to return to normal play mode.
,Fast forward or fast reverse is performed. Press H to return to normal play mode.
,When you play the Dolby Digital
Severe hum or noise is heard.
,Check that the speakers and components are connected securely.
,Check that the connecting cords are away from a transformer or motor, and at least
3 meters (10 feet) away from a TV set or fluorescent light.
,Move your TV away from the audio compo- nents.
