SECTION 6: MAINTENANCE
Always disconnect power to the machine before performing maintenance. Failure to do this may result in serious person- al injury.
Schedule
For optimum performance from your machine, follow this maintenance schedule and refer to any specific instructions given in this section. Routinely check the condition of the following items and repair or replace as necessary:
•Cracked or loose grinding wheel.
•Loose mounting bolts.
•Worn switch.
•Worn or damaged cords and plugs.
•Any other condition that could hamper the safe operation of this machine.
Grinding Wheels
The grinding wheel should be inspected before every use. Use the ring test method noted in Wheel Inspection on Page 19 to verify the structural integrity. Take care in storing grinding wheels to keep them free from potential damage by being dropped, or having other items drop on them.
Replace the wheel when the wheel diameter is reduced to 2" smaller than its original size. Operating at anything less than this diameter does not allow the proper surface speed for grind- ing or spacing of the tool rest and the eye shield, and the grinding wheel may fly apart.
