“Start With a Mix” Recipes
Try these waffle variations made easy when prepared with a packaged mix.
NOTE: When using packaged pancake and waffle mix, the package directions for waffles call for 2 cups of the packaged mix and 11⁄2 cups of milk or water. Some recipes then add oil and eggs. If the following variations call to reduce or increase the liquid, it is referring to the 11⁄2 cups of milk or water. Each recipe will make 3 to 4 cups of batter.
Add 1 mashed banana and 1⁄3 cup chopped pecans.
Beer Batter Waffles
Replace all the liquid with beer.
Honey & Nut Waffles
Reduce liquid to 1 cup. Add 1⁄2 cup honey and 1⁄3 cup chopped nuts.
Applesauce Waffles
Reduce liquid by 1⁄2 cup. Add 1 cup of applesauce and 1⁄2 teaspoon cinnamon.
PB&J Waffles
Add 1 cup peanut butter. Increase liquid by 1⁄2 cup. Serve topped with melted jelly.
Cinnamon-Sugar Waffles
Combine 1 tablespoon sugar and 1 teaspoon cinnamon. Spray grids with cooking spray. Pour batter onto grids. Sprinkle batter with some
Gingerbread Waffles
Reduce liquid to 1 cup. Add 1⁄2 cup molasses, 1 teaspoon ground ginger, 1⁄2 teaspoon ground cloves, and 4 tablespoons brown sugar. Serve with lemon sauce.

Brown Sugar Waffles
Combine 1 tablespoon sugar with 1 tablespoon brown sugar. Spray grids with cook- ing spray. Pour batter onto grids. Sprinkle batter with some of the brown sugar mixture before closing lid.
Florida Waffles
Replace all the liquid with orange juice. Add 1 teaspoon grated orange zest.
