8.6 Cleaning of Machine
Quali cation / Skill 1
Regular slotted containers produce a great deal of
dust and paper chips when processed or handled
in equipment. If this dust is allowed to build up on
machine components, it can cause component
wear. The dust buildup can best be removed
from the machine by a shop vacuum. Depending
on the number and type of boxes used in the
infeed conveyor, this cleaning should be done
approximately once per month. If the boxes are dirty,
or if the environment in which the machine operates
is dusty, cleaning on a more frequent basis may be
necessary. Excessive dirt buildup that cannot be
removed by vacuuming should be wiped off
with a damp cloth.
8.7 Lubrication
Quali cation / Skill 2
Most of the machine bearings, including the drive
motor, are permanently lubricated and sealed and
do not require additional lubricant. tape. Lubricate
the felt pad on the blade guard without saturating it.

Note: Wipe off excess oil and grease. It will attract
dust which can cause premature equipment wear
and jamming. Take care that oil and grease are
not left on the surface of rollers around which tape
is threaded, as it can contaminate the tape's
adhesive.
8.8 Lubrication Products
Synthetic Silicone Spray may be used on
Guide Pivot Points (Figure 8-1).
Important: Never attempt to remove dirt from
machine by blowing it off with
compressed air. This can cause dirt
to be blown into critical machine
components and cause premature
wear. Never wash down or subject
machine to conditions causing moisture
condensation as serious equipment
damage could result.
