Using the Agilent 83434A

1Turn the lightwave receiver on. Let it warm up for 30 minutes.
2Turn on the BERT and the laser and let them warm up according to their
specifications.
3Perform any calibrations indicated in the documentation for the BERT.
4Connect a cable from the CLOCK OUT connector on the lightwave receiver to the
clock input connector of the BERT. An adapter may be necessary .
5Connect a cable from the DATA OUT connector on the lightwave receiver to the
data input connector on the BERT. An adapter may be necessary.
6Clean the end of the OPTICAL INPUT glass fiber on the lightwave receiver and both
ends of the glass fiber cable. Refer to “Fiber-Optic Connectors” on page 3-8 for
instructions.
7Connect the optical connector interface to the OPTICAL INPUT. Notice th e
connector interface has a small protrusion. This protrusion fits in the slot of the
OPTICAL INPUT connector.
8Connect the cable to the receiver optical connector interface.
