Click the drive you

WARNING Initializing a disk erases any information that may be on it. Before you initialize a damaged disk, try to repair it as described in “Repairing a Damaged Disk” earlier in this chapter.

1Start up your computer from the Macintosh Performa CD.

See “Starting Up From a CD-ROM Disc” in the section “Repairing a Damaged Disk,” earlier in this chapter.

2Open the Drive Setup program.

You may need to look in a folder called Utilities to find Drive Setup.

3 In the list of drives, click the disk you want to initialize.

Click the drive you

want to initialize...

...then click Initialize.

4Click Initialize to initialize the hard disk.

5When you see a message reporting that initialization was successful, click Quit.

If a message reports that initialization failed, try again. If initialization fails a second time, take the disk to your Apple-authorized service provider for repair.
