Receiving methods

Before using your machine to receive faxes,you need to set the mode according to how you

plan to use your machine.

•For receiving both faxes and voice calls:Select <FAX/TEL AUTO SW> (p.9 -2).

•For receiving faxes only:Select <FAX ONLY MODE> (p.9 -3).

•If you have subscribed to a DRP (Distinctive Ring Pattern) service offered by some

telephone companies:Select <DRPD> (p. 9 -5).

•For receiving mainly voice calls and sometimes faxes:Select <MANUAL MODE>

(p.9-4) or <FAX/TEL AUTO SW> (p.9 -2).

•For receiving faxes and voice messages on an answering machine:Select <ANS.

MACHINE MODE> (p.9-5).

•For receiving faxes directly to your computer:Refer to the Software Guide.

To check which receive mode is set, press [Fax].The receive mode appears on the bottom left

of the LCD.

Follow this procedure to set the receive mode:

1Press [Fax].

2Press [Menu].

3Press [Set].

4 Use [2] or [3] to select the receive mode:

5Press [Set].

Cannot install the software. Problems printing from your computer Cannot print at all. Cannot print to a shared printer. Printing stops in the middle. 12-4 Paper does not feed properly. Paper curls. Meaningless characters and symbols are printing. White streaks appear on the printout. Problems using a memory card Memory card is not recognized. 12-6 ?is printed in the index. You have followed the procedures above and the memory card is still not recognized. Cannot write to the memory card (write protect error displayed in Windows). Removable disk does not appear in Windows Explorer. Copying problems Cannot make a copy (the document or paper will not feed into the machine). Paper comes out but there is nothing copied on it. Copy quality is poor. 12-8 Problems scanning to a computer See below if you have problems scanning a document to your computer from the machine. Cannot scan a document. Computer has hung up or frozen. Chapter 12 Troubleshooting 12-9 The image you have scanned looks dirty. White margins appear around the scanned image. White lines appear on the left side of the image. Cannot scan multiple photographs correctly. Scanned image is displayed at a large (small) size on the computer screen. Problems receiving faxes See below if you are having problems receiving faxes on the machine. Cannot receive a fax,cannot print a fax. Chapter 12 Troubleshooting 12-11 Cannot receive faxes automatically. Machine does not switch automatically between voice and fax reception. Quality of received fax is poor. Cannot receive a fax in ECM mode. Repeated errors occur when you receive a fax. Problems sending faxes Cannot send a fax. Fax sent is dirty. You cannot send a fax in ECM mode.
