latersmalloff-roadengine(SORE).InCalifornia,newsmall off-roadengines
mustbedesigned,builtand equippedto meetthe State'sstringentanti-smog
standards.Elsewherein the UnitedStates,new non-road,spark-ignition
enginescertifiedformodelyear 1997and latermust meetsimilar standardsset
forthbythe U.S.EPA.Searsmustwarranttheemissioncontrol systemonyour
YEAR1997AND LATERENGINESWHICHAREPURCHASEDAND USED
ELSEWHEREINTHE UNITEDSTATES(ANDAFTERJANUARY1,2001 IN
CANADA).

engineforthe periodsoftime listedbelow,providedtherehasbeen noabuse,
neglectorimpropermaintenanceofyoursmalloff-roadengine.Youremis-
sioncontrolsystemincludespartssuch as the carburetor,aircleaner,ignition
system,mufflerandcatalyticconverter.Alsoincludedmaybeconnectorsand
otheremissionrelatedassemblies.Whereawarrantableconditionexists,Sears
willrepairyour smalloff-road engineat nocost to you includingdiagnosis,parts
andlabor.
Sears Emission Control Defects Warranty Coverage
Smalloff-roadenginesarewarrantedrelativetoemissioncontrol partsdefects
fora periodof one year,subjectto provisionssetforth below.Ifanycovered
Owner's Warranty
Asthe smalloff-roadengineowner,youare responsibleforthe performanceof
therequiredmaintenancelistedinyour OperatingandMaintenanceInstruc-
tions.Searsrecommendsthatyouretainall yourreceiptscoveringmaintenance
onyoursmalloff-road engine,butSears cannotdenywarrantysolelyforthe
lackof receiptsorfor yourfailureto ensure theperformanceofall scheduled
maintenance.As the smalloff-roadengineowner,you shouldhoweverbe
awarethatSearsmaydeny you warrantycoverageifyoursmalloff-road engine
ora part hasfaileddue to abuse,neglect,impropermaintenanceorunap-
parton yourengineis defective,thepartwill be repairedorreplacedbySears.
Responsibilities
provedmodifications.Youareresponsibleforpresentingyoursmalloff-road
engineto anAuthorizedSearsServiceDealeras soon as a problemexists.The
undisputedwarrantyrepairsshouldbecompletedin a reasonableamountof
time,notto exceed30days. Ifyouhave anyquestionsregardingyourwarranty

at 1-800-469-4663.Theemissionwarrantyisa defectswarranty.Defectsare
judgedon normalengineperformance.Thewarrantyis notrelatedto an in-use
emissiontest.
Sears Emission Control Defects Warranty ProvisionsThefollowingarespecificprovisionsrelativetoyourEmissionControlDefectsWarrantyCoverage.It isinadditiontotheSearsenginewarrantyfornon-regulated
enginesfoundinthe OperatingandMaintenanceInstructions.

Coverageunderthiswarrantyextendsonly to the parts listedbelow (the
emissioncontrolsystemsparts)to the extent these partswere presenton
theengine purchased.

2. LengthofCoverage
Searswarrantstothe initial ownerand eachsubsequentpurchaserthat
theWarrantedParts shallbe free fromdefects in materialsandworkman-
shipwhichcaused thefailure of the WarrantedPartsfor a period ofone
yearfromthe datethe engineis deliveredtoa retailpurchaser.
3. NoCharge
Repairorreplacementof anyWarrantedPartwill be performedatno
chargetothe owner,including diagnosticlaborwhich leadsto the
determinationthataWarranted Partis defective,if the diagnosticwork is
performedatanAuthorizedSears ServiceDealer.Foremissionswarranty
servicecontactyour nearestAuthorizedSearsService Dealeras listed in
the"YellowPages"under "Engines,Gasoline,""GasolineEngines,""Lawn
Mowers,"orsimilarcategory.
4. Claimsand CoverageExclusions
Warrantyclaimsshall befiled in accordancewith the provisionsofthe
SearsEngineWarrantyPolicy.Warrantycoverageshall beexcludedfor
failuresof WarrantedPartswhichare not original Searsparts or because
ofabuse, neglector impropermaintenanceas setforth in the Sears
EngineWarrantyPolicy.Searsis notliableto coverfailuresof Warranted
Partscausedby theuse of add-on, non-original,ormodifiedparts.
5. Maintenance
AnyWarrantedPart whichis not scheduledfor replacementasrequired
maintenanceorwhichis scheduledonly for regularinspectiontothe effect
of"repair or replaceas necessary"shallbe warrantedasto defectsfor the
warrantyperiod.Any WarrantedPartwhich isscheduledfor replacement
asrequired maintenanceshallbewarrantedas to defectsonly for the
periodoftime up to the firstscheduledreplacementforthat part. Any
replacementpartthatis equivalentin performanceanddurabilitymay
beusedin the performanceof anymaintenanceor repairs.The owneris
responsiblefortheperformanceof all requiredmaintenance,as definedin
theSearsOperatingand MaintenanceInstructions.
6. ConsequentialCoverage
Coveragehereundershallextendto thefailureof anyenginecomponents
causedbythe failureofany Warranted Partstill underwarranty.
