Attaching the Battery Cables

Batteryposts,terminals,andrelatedaccessoriescontainleadand
leadcompounds,chemicalsknowntothe Stateof Californiato
causecancerandreproductiveharm.Washhandsafterhandling.
Whenattachingbatterycables,alwaysconnectthePOSITIVE(Red)
wiretoits terminalfirst,followedby the NEGATIVE(Black)wire.
Forshippingreasons,bothbatterycableson yourequipmenthave
beenleftdisconnectedfromthe terminalsat thefactory.Toconnect
thebatterycables,proceedas follows:
NOTE:Thepositivebatteryterminalis markedPos.(+). The negative
batteryterminalismarkedNeg.(i).
1. Removetheplasticcover,if present,fromthe positivebattery
terminalandattachthe redcableto the positivebatteryterminal
(+)withthe bolt andhex nut.See Figure1.
2. Removetheplasticcover,if present,fromthe negativebattery
terminalandattachtheblack cableto the negativebattery
terminal(-) withthe boltandhex nut.See Figure1.

Shipping Brace Removal
Makesuretheridingmower'sengineis off, removethe ignitionkey,
andset the parkingbrakebeforeremovingtheshippingbrace.Refer
Itothe Operationsectionforinstructionsonhow to set the parking
lbrake.
• Locatetheshippingbrace,if present,andaccompanyingwarning
tagfoundon the rightsideof themower,betweenthedischarge
chutedeflectorandthe cuttingdeck.SeeFig. 2.

Whilepushingthedischargechuteddlectortowardsthemachinewith
yourlefthand,removethe shippingbracewithyourrighthandbygrasp-
ingitbetweenyourthumbandindexfingerandrotatingitclockwise.
Theshippingbrace,usedfor packagingpurposesonly,mustbe
removedand discardedbeforeoperatingyourridingmower.
Themowingdeck iscapableof throwingobjects.Failuretooperate
the ridingmowerwithoutthedischargecoverin theproperoperating
Ipositioncouldresultin seriouspersonalinjuryand/orproperty
ldamage.
Attaching The Steering Wheel
Ifthe steeringwheelforyour tractordid not comeattached,the
hardwareforattachingithas beenpackedwithinthe steeringwheel,
beneaththesteeringwheelcap. Carefullypryoff the steeringwheel
capand removethehardware.
1. Withthe wheelsofthe tractorpointingstraightforward,placethe
steeringwheeloverthe steeringshaft.
2. Placethe washer(with thecupped sidedown) overthe steering
wheeland securewiththehex bolt.SeeFig.3.
