Changingofengine-governedspeedwillvoidenginewarranty.
All adjustmentsshouldbecheckedatleastonce eachseason.
Periodicallycheckall fastenersandmakesuretheseare tight.

Forgoodperformance,thesparkplug mustbeproperlygappedand
freeofdeposits.Check thesparkplug every50 hoursor oncea
season.Replacethesparkplugevery200 hoursof operation.
1. Disconnectthe cap fromthe sparkplug, andremoveany dirt from
thesparkplug area.
2. Usethe propersizesparkplugwrenchtoremovethe sparkplug.
3. inspectthe sparkplug. Replaceit if damaged,badlyfouled,ifthe
sealingwasherisin poor condition,or if theelectrodeis worn.
4. Measuretheelectrodegapwitha suitablegauge.Thecorrect gap
is0.028- 0.030in. (0.70-0.80 ram).See Figure12.Ifadjustment
isneeded,correctthe gap by carefullybendingtheside electrode.
5. installthe sparkplugcarefully,byhand,toavoidcross-threading.
6. Afterthespark plug is seated,tightenwiththe propersize spark
plugwrenchto compressthe washer.
Wheninstallinganewspark plug,tighten 1/2turn afterthespark plug
seatstocompressthe washer.
Whenreinstallingtheoriginalsparkplug,tighten 1/8-1/4turnafterthe
sparkplugseatsto compressthe washer.
NOTE:Properlytightenthesparkplug.A loose sparkplugcan become
veryhotand candamagetheengine.Overtighteningthesparkplug
candamagethethreadsin the cylinderhead.
7. Attachthe sparkplugcapto thespark plug.
Air Cleaner
Adirty air cleanerwill restrictair flowto the carburetorandcausepoor
engineperformance,inspectthe filter eachtime theengine is oper-
ated.Youwill needto cleanthe filter morefrequentlyif youoperatethe
engineinverydusty areas.
Cleantheair cleanerevery25 hoursof operationoronce a season.
Replacetheaircleanerevery200 hoursof operation.
NOTE:Operatingtheenginewithoutafilter, or withdamagedfilter,will
allowdirtto enter the engine,causingrapidenginewear.
Inspection
1. Pressthelatchtabs onthetop oftheair cleanercover,and
removethecover.Checkthefilterto be sureitis clean and in
goodcondition.SeeFigure13.
2. Reinstallthefilterandair cleanercover.
Cleaning
1. Tapthefilter severaltimesona hard surfaceto removedirt,or
blowcompressedairnotexceeding30psi throughthefilter from
thecleanside that facestheengine.Nevertry to brushoff dirt.
Brushingwillforcedirt intothe fibers.
2. Wipedirt fromthe air cleanerbody andcover usinga moist rag.
Becarefulto preventdirtfrom enteringtheair duct thatleads to
thecarburetor.
