CLEANING DECK
Cleanundersideofthe mowerdeckoncea seasonto preventbuild-up
ofgrass clippingsorother debris.Followstepsbelowfor thisjob.
1. Disconnectsparkplugwire.Draingasolinefromlawnmoweror
placea pieceof plasticunderthe gascap.
2. Tipmowerso that it restsonthe housing,keepingthemufflerside
down.Holdmowerfirmly.
Nevertipthe mowermorethan900in any directionanddo notleave
the mowertippedforany lengthof time. Oil candrain into the upper
partofthe enginecausinga startingproblem.
3. Scrapeandclean theundersideof thedeck witha suitabletool.
Donotspraywith water.
IMPORTANT:Donotusea pressurewasherorgardenhose toclean
yourunit.These maycausedamagetobearings,orthe engine.The
useof waterwill resultin shortenedlife andreduce serviceability.
4. Putthe mowerbackon its wheelsonthe ground.If youhad put
plasticunderthegas cap earlier,makesureto removeit now.

REPLACING REAR FLAP

Toreplacerearflap,proceedas follows:
1. Liftreardoor,and pressflap in oneither sideto removefromhole.
SeeFigure16.
2. Removeflapfromoppositehole andreplacewithnew flapin the
oppositeorderandmannerof removal.
Whenremovingthecuttingbladefor sharpeningorreplacement,
protectyourhandswitha pairofheavy glovesoruse a heavy ragto
holdthe blade.

BLADE CARE

Periodicallyinspectthe bladeadapterfor cracks,especiallyifyou
strikea foreignobject.Replacewhennecessary.Followthesteps
belowforbladeservice.
1. Disconnectsparkplugbootfromspark plug.Turnmoweron its
sidemakingsurethat theair filter andthecarburetorarefacing
up.
2. Removetheboltandthe bladebellsupportwhichholdthe blade
andthe bladeadaptertothe enginecrankshaft.SeeFigure17.
3. Removebladeandadapterfromthecrankshaft.
NOTE:Whenremovingthese items,thewavewashermayalsobreak
freefromthe crankshaft.Besure tomakenote ofthe orientationofthis
itemfor reassembly.
4. Removebladefromthe adapterfortesting balance.Balancethe
bladeona roundshaft screwdrivertocheck.Removemetalfrom
theheavyside untilit balancesevenly.Whensharpeningthe
blade,followtheoriginalangleof grind. Grindeachcuttingedge
equallytokeep thebladebalanced.

Anunbalancedbladewillcause excessivevibrationwhenrotatingat I
highspeeds.It maycausedamageto mowerandcouldbreakcausingI

.Lubricatetheenginecrankshaftandtheinner surfaceof theblade
adapterwithlightoil. Slidethe bladeadapterontothe engine
crankshaft.Placethebladeonthe adaptersuchthatthe sideof
theblademarked"Bottom"(orwith partnumber)facestheground
whenthemoweris intheoperatingposition.Makesurethatthe
bladeisalignedand seatedon the bladeadapterflanges.
