Changing the Engine Oil
Theoil intheengine shouldbe changedevery25hoursof operation.
1. Togain accessto theoil drainvalveon the engine,the right
handlebracetubeshouldbe pivotedforward.
a. Removetheupperstarknobandcarriagescrewon the right
sideofthe handle,Figure11.
b. Pivotthebracetube towardsthefrontof themowertoallow
roomtoconnectthe oil drainhose tothe oil drainvalve,

drainport. Routetheoppositeend ofthe hoseinto an appropriate
oilcollectioncontainerwitha capacitygreatenoughto collectthe
usedoil.
5. Releasethevalvebypressingthe twotabsinwardwhilepulling
thevalveout. Theoil will beginto drainout ofthe engine.
6. Aftertheoil hasfinisheddraining,pressthe twotabs inwardand
pushtheoil drainvalveback into lock thevalveclosed. Remove
thehose,and re-capthe endof the oil drainvalveto keepdebris
fromenteringthedrain port.
7. Refilltheenginewithnewmotoroil untilthe oil levelon the
dipstickreadsFULL.Replacetheoil fill cap/dipstick.
8. Pivottherighthandlebrace tubebackintoposition.Align the
middleholein thebracetube withthe hole inthe handle.Secure
withthe starknobandcarriagescrew removedearlier.
Onlyusehighquality detergentoil ratedwithAPIserviceclas-
sificationSForSG. Selectthe oil's SAEviscositygradeaccording
toyourexpectedoperatingtemperature,Figure13.Although
multi-viscosityoils(5W30,10W30etc.)improvestartingincold
weather,thesemulti-viscosityoils will resultin increasedoilcon-
sumptionwhenusedabove32°ECheckyour engineoil levelmore
frequentlytoavoidpossibleenginedamagefromrunninglow onoil.
