Starting Dell Diagnostics

Starting Dell Diagnostics

When you run Dell diagnostics, the computer invokes the Pre-boot System Assessment (PSA). The PSA includes a series of diagnostic tests for devices such as the system board, keyboard, display, memory, hard drive, and so on.

Manual background NOTE: If your computer cannot display a screen image, contact Dell (see “Contacting Dell” on page 61) for assistance.

1.Ensure that the computer is connected to an electrical outlet that is known to be working properly.

2.Turn on (or restart) your computer.

3.When the DELL logo appears, press <F12> immediately to access the Boot Menu.

Manual background NOTE: If you wait too long and the operating system logo appears, continue to wait until you see the Microsoft Windows desktop; then, shut down your computer and try again.

Using Support Tools

4.Select Diagnostics from the boot menu and press <Enter>. This will invoke the PSA on your computer.

5.Follow the instructions that appear on the screen.

6.If you encounter a problem during the test, a message with the error code and a description of the problem appears on your screen. Write down the error code and problem description and contact Dell (see “Contacting Dell” on page 61).

7.If the PSA completes successfully, the following message appears : “No problems have been found with this system so far. Do you want to run the remaining memory tests? This will take about 30 minutes or more. Do you want to continue? (Recommended).”
