System Maintenance

ThischapterexplainshowtomaintaintheDolby®DP600.Thesectionsthatfollowshow
youhowtodiagnoseandrepairharddrivesandpowersupplies.

3.1 Maintaining the DP600 Hard Drives

TheDP600hasfivephysicalinternalharddrives.Drives1and2arearrangedinaRAID1
configurationtoprovideprotectionfortheoperatingsystemaswellaslocalstorage.The
remainingthreeharddrivesareconfiguredasseparatedrivestoprovidelocalstorage.This
configurationofoneRAIDpairandthreeseparatedrivesrepresentsfourlogicaldrives.
TherearefourbicolorLEDsonthefrontpanel,labeled1,2,3,and4.TheseLEDsindicate
thestatusoftheDP600’sfourlogicalinternalharddrives.ThedriveLEDsfunctionas
follows:
•Off(nonilluminated):Indicatesafunctionaldrivewithnocurrentdiskaccessactivity
•Green:Indicatesnormaldriveactivity
•Red:Indicatesadrivefailure.
LED1 showsthestatusofthetwodriveRAID1configuration.Theoperatingsystemis
installedonthesemirroreddrivestopreventaphysicaldrivefailure,resultinginan
inoperablesystem.Ifeitherofthemirroreddrivesfails,theotherRAIDdriveenablesthe
systemtooperatenormallyuntilthefaileddriveisreplaced.
LEDs2,3,and4indicatethestatusoftheotherthreephysicaldisks.Thesedisksare
configuredasseparatedrivesanddonothaveRAIDbackupcapability.Ifanyofthese
drivesfail,thefaileddrivesmustbereplaced,andanyworkordersinprogressduringthe
failuremustberestarted.
IfoneofthedriveLEDsturnsred,refertoTable 3 1todeterminewhichphysicaldrive
failed.Typic ally,theDP600automaticallyrebuildstheRAIDarraywhenoneoftheRAID
driveshasaproblemorisreplaced(withthepoweron).DuringtheRAIDrebuildprocess,
LED1blinksinredinhalfsecondintervals.Whentherebuildprocessiscomplete,LED1
stopsblinking.
Insomeinstances,youmustinitiatetherebuildprocessmanually(asdescribedin
RebuildingaDriveonpage49).Forexample,ifyou replaceanonRAIDdrive.
IfyoureplacebothRAIDdrives,youalsoneedtoreinstalltheDP600software.Insucha
case,followtheinstructionsforacleaninstallationinUpgrading/InstallingtheDP600
Softwareonpage55.Whenyoureinst allthesoftware,thesystemautomatically
synchronizesthetwoRAIDdrives,recreatingtheoriginalmirroredRAIDarray(manual
rebuildnotrequired).
