Pilot will not stay lit.

PROBLEM

Pilot will not stay lit.

“ODS” pilot lights, but flame dies when control knob is released.

Pilot flame not touching thermopile, which causes it to cool and shut off the pilot flame.

Flame too low.

Burner will not come on or has low flame (pilot is okay).

Burner will not come on or has an extremely low flame (pilot okay).

Delayed ignition of burner.

Burner backfiring during ignition.

Burner will not come on.

Control knob frozen – will not turn.

Carbon or sooting on logs.

POSSIBLE CAUSE

Altitude is above 4000 ft.; ODS sensor requirement for air not satisfied.

Defective thermopile.

Pilot orifice may be clogged.

Defective valve magnet.

Control knob not fully pressed in.Control knob not pressed in long enough.Manual shut-off valve not fully open.

Low gas pressure.

Dirty or clogged “ODS” pilot.

Thermopile damaged.

Control valve damaged.

Burner orifice clogged.

Orifice is too small.

Inlet gas pressure too low.Problem with gas pressure.Control not on or is set on “LOW”.

Gas valve may be clogged due to

debris entering valve during installation.Faulty gas valve.

Burner ports and/or carryover ports may be clogged.

Manifold pressure is too low.

Burner or orifice is clogged.

Dirt on valve seal.

Defective valve; foreign material.Logs out of position.

SOLUTION

Altitude is too high. *Replace thermopile. *Clean out pilot orifice. *Replace valve.

Press in knob completely. Hold 30 sec. after pilot lights. Fully open shut-off valve.

*Contact gas supplier. *Replace assembly or service. *Replace thermopile. *Replace control valve. *Clean burner; replace orifice. *Replace orifice if necessary. *Contact gas supplier. *Check gas pressure.

Move to “HIGH” setting.

*Replace gas valve. *Replace gas valve.

*Check and clean ports. *Contact gas supplier. *Check and clean both. *Clean and/or replace. *Clean and/or replace. *Replace valve. *Replace valve.
