Who Should Use This Guide

Thisguideisintendedforanetworkadministratorresponsibleforinstallingandsetting
uptheDFE module.
Note: In this guide, the following terms are used:
DFE refers to Distributed Forwarding Engine series of modules.
DFE module or module refers to the 4G4285-49 or the 4G4205-72, unless otherwise
noted.
Network expansion module or NEM refers to an optional uplink card installed on the
main logic board and accessible through the option slot of the 4G4285-49.
•PD refers to Powered Device, which is a device that is PoE compliant to operate using
48 Vdc received through the Ethernet data cabling.
Important Notice
Depending on the firmware version used in the DFE module, some features described in this
document may not be supported. Refer to the Release Notes shipped with the DFE module to
determine which features are supported.
