Installation

Mounting considerations

When selecting a mounting l ocation for the
antenna unit keep in mind the follow ing points.
Install the antenna unit on the hardtop, radar
arch or on a mast on an appropriate platf orm .
(For sailboats, a mounting b racket is
optionally available.) It should b e placed
where there is a good all-round vi ew with, as
far as possible, no part of the ship’s
superstructure or rigging intercepting the
scanning beam. Any obstruction w ill cause
shadow and blind sectors. A mast, f or
instance, with a diameter consider ably less
than the width of the antenna unit, will cause
only a small blind sector. How ever, a
horizontal spreader or crosstrees in the
same horizontal plane would be a m uch
more serious obstruction; pl ace the antenna
unit well above or below it.

In order to minimize the chance of picking up
electrical interference, avoi d where possible
routing the antenna cable near other
electrical equipment onboar d. Also avoid
running the cable in parallel w ith power
cables.
The compass safe distance of 1.25 m eters
(standard compass) and 0.85 meter s
(steering compass) should b e observed to
prevent deviation of the mag netic compass.
