Memory Specifications

The FC 16B has the following memory:

Main Memory: 16 MB per switch

Flash Memory: 16MB of 16-bit wide memory, stored in 2 banks of 8M-bytes each

Boot Flash: 512K bytes of 8-bit for system boot

The centralized memory maximizes the overall switch throughput by guaranteeing full transmit and receive bandwidth to all Fibre Channel ports at all times.

Optical Port Specifications

The optical ports in the FC 16B are compatible with SWL (short wave-length) and LWL (long wave-length) SFPs (small form factor pluggable media) and SFP-compatible cables. The strength of the signal is determined by the type of SFP in use.

The ports meet all required safety standards. For more information about these standards, see Regulatory Compliance on page A-7.

The ports are capable of operating at 2.125 Gbps or 1.0625 Gbps. Each port has a SerDes (serializer/de-serializer) which accepts 10-bit wide parallel data and serializes it into a high-speed serial stream. The parallel data is expected to be “8B/10B” encoded data or equivalent.

Serial Port Specifications

The serial port has an RS-232 connector, and is located in the SFP media side of the switch.

Note: For dust and ESD (electrostatic discharge) protection, a cover is provided for the serial port and should be kept on the port whenever the serial port is not in use.

The serial port can be used to connect to a computer workstation to configure the switch IP address without connecting to the fabric. The serial port’s parameters are 9600 baud, 8 data bits, no parity, 1 stop bit, and no flow control.
