Replacing the Air Filter
Standard air filter
If the engine seems weak or runs unevenly, the air filter may be clogged. If run with a dirty air filter, the spark plugs can obtain a coating that disrupts operation.
For this reason, it is important to replace the air filter regularly (see the heading Maintenance Schedule for the proper service interval).
Cleaning/replacing the air filter is carried out as follows:
WARNING!
Allow the exhaust system to cool before performing service. Risk for burns.
1.Remove the four plastic fasteners on the top of the air filter cowling and remove the air filter cowling.
2.Remove the paper filter cartridge.
3.Remove the foam filter
4.Tap the paper filter against a fixed surface to remove dust. If the paper filter is still dirty, it must be replaced.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Do not used compressed air to clean the air filter.
Do not wash the paper filter. Do not oil the paper filter.
5.Wipe clean the inside of air filter housing.
6.Refit the foam filter (pre filter). The text on the filter shall face upwards.
7.Mount the paper filter in the air filter housing.
8.Replace the cowling over the air filter housing. Do not over tighten the plastic fasteners.
