REPLACING ELECTRIC DEFROST
HEATERS (RL / RLN / RLNI / RLNIE
Only)
Electric defrost requires a heater on the front
and rear of the coil as shown. The heaters are
held in place by tabs in the coil brackets.
Front Defrost Heater
1. Disconnect Power.
2. Lift fan plenum up and back to access the
heater.
3. Bend tabs holding heater to horizontal.
4. Remove heater from coil bracket.
5. Position new heater in bracket.
6. Bend tabs back to vertical to hold heater in
bracket.
7. Replace the coil cover and lower fan plenum.
8. Turn on power.
9. Verify that heater is working correctly.
10. Close air gaps under fan plenum. Warmer air
moving into refrigerated air reduces effective
cooling. If the plenum does not rest against
the case bottom without gaps, apply foam
tape to the bottom of the fan plenum to
reduce improper air movement. Use silicone
sealant to close other gaps.
11. Replace display pans. Bring merchandiser to
operating temperature before restocking.
Rear Defrost Heater
1. Disconnect Power.
2. Remove coil cover.
3. Remove clips holding heater to coil tube.
4. Remove heater from slots in coil bracket.
5. Position new heater in slots.
6. Replace clips.
7. Replace the coil cover.
8. Turn on power.
9. Verify that heater is working correctly.
10. Replace display pans. Bring merchandiser to
operating temperature before restocking.
