SECTION 9—WHEEL LOCKS
WARNING
After any adjustments, repair or service and before use, make sure all attaching
hardware is tightened securely. Otherwise injury or damage may occur.

Adjusting Wheel Locks

WARNING
DO NOT attempt to stop a moving wheelchair with the wheel locks. WHEEL
LOCKS ARE NOT BRAKES.
NOTE:Forthisprocedure,refertoFIGURE 9.1.
1. Ensurethewheellockisintheopen(unlockedposition).
2. Loosentheboltandlocknutthatsecurethewheellockassemblytothewheelchair
frame.
3. Repositionthewheellocksothatwhenengaged,thewheellockshoeembedsthetire
1/8inchandholdsthewheelchair.
4. Securelytightentheboltandlocknutsecuringthewheellocktothewheelchairframe.
5. Engagethewheellock.
6. MeasurethedistancethewheellockisembeddedintothetireasshownindetailʺAʺ
ofFIGURE 9.1.
NOTE:Anywheellockadjustmentshouldembedthewheellockshoeatleast1/8inchintothetire
whenengaged.
7. RepeattheSTEPS16untilthewheellockshoeembedsthetire1/8inchandholdsthe
wheelchair.
8. RepeatSTEPS17fortheoppositewheellock.
9. Ifthemeasurementof1/8inchcannotbeachieved,removetheboltandlocknutthat
securethewheellocktothewheelchairframeandmountthewheellockinoneoftwo
mountingpositions.
10. RepeatSTEPS19untilthewheellockholdsthewheelchair.Ifthecorrect
measurementstillcannotbeachieved,contactaqualifiedtechnician.
