I Using the Grill J

Before the first use, washyour new grill gratesin hot soapy water, rinse and dry. Then "season"the surface by wiping on a thin coating of cooking oil. Remove excess oil by wiping again with another paper towel. This procedure should be repeatedwhen: a) cleaning in the dishwasher since the detergent may remove seasoning,or b)anytimea sugar-basedmarinade(for example,barbecuesauce)is goingto be used.

Use nonmetallicspatulasor utensilsto prevent damagingthe Excalibur® nonstick grill grate finish.

Preheatthe grillon Hi for5 minutes. Preheatingimprovestheflavorand appearance of meatsand quicklysears the meatto help retain the juices.

Excessiveamountsof fat should be trimmedfrommeats. Only a normal amountis necessaryto producethesmokeneededforthat smoked,"outdoor"flavor.Excessive fat can createcleaningand flare-up problems.

Allowingexcessiveamounts of grease or drippings to constantly flame voids the

warrantyon the grill grates. Excessiveflare-ups indicatethat either the grill interior needstobe cleanedorthat excessiveamountsof fat areinthe meatorthe meat was

not properlytrimmed.

Greasedrippingswill occasionallyignite to produce harmlesspuffs of flame for a second or two. This is a normalpart of the cookingprocess.

NEVERLEAVE GRILLUNATTENDEDDURINGGRILL OPERATION.

Should excess grease cause sustained flare-up

1.Turn on FANmanually.

2.Immediatelyturngrillcontrolknobsto OFF position.

3.Removemeatfromgrill.

IMPORTANT

Do notuse aluminumfoilinsidethe grillarea.

Do notuse charcoalorwoodchipsinthe grillarea.

Donotallowburnerbasintobecomeoverloadedwithgrease.Cleanaftereachuse.

Donotcovergratescompletelywithmeat.Leaveairspacebetweeneachsteak,etc. to allowproperventilationaswell as preventflare-ups.
