POSITIONING YOUR POWERED SUBWOOFER

Klipsch powered subwoofers are designed to reproduce the deep bass and deliver the impact that really makes your movies and music come alive. For optimum performance, place your subwoofer in a corner of the room on the same wall as your front channel speakers. Refer to Figures 1 and 2 for placement. Please note that room placement can have a dramatic effect upon the performance of your powered subwoofer. Corner placement, as suggested above, will increase the amount of bass output, while placing the subwoofer along the middle of a wall, or out in the room will decrease the amount of bass output. Experiment with a number of different placement options and control settings to find the one that best suits your particular room and taste. When choosing your subwooferÕs location, keep in mind that you will need to connect the subwooferÕs built-in amplifier to an AC power outlet.

CONNECTING YOUR POWERED SUBWOOFER TO YOUR ELECTRONICS

Conventional Speaker Wire Connection Ñ Using 16-gauge or larger speaker wire, connect the RED ÒpositiveÓ (+) ter- minal of your amplifierÕs LEFT channel to the RED ÒpositiveÓ (+) terminal of your subwooferÕs LEFT channel input (ÒSpeaker InÓ). Connect the BLACK ÒnegativeÓ (Ð) terminal of your amplifierÕs LEFT channel to the BLACK Ònega- tiveÓ (Ð) terminal of your subwooferÕs LEFT channel input (ÒSpeaker InÓ). Repeat this procedure for connecting your amplifierÕs RIGHT channel to your subwooferÕs RIGHT channel input. Refer to Figure 3. Take care to make sure that no bare wires from any of the connections touch any other terminals as this could cause a short and damage your equipment.

Controls and Optional Connections Ñ Powered subwoofers can be hooked up to the subwoofer output of your electron- ics via the RCA jack inputs on the subwooferÕs rear panel. Refer to Figures 4 and 5. This can be in addition to, or in place of, the conventional speaker wire connections. For more information on the controls mentioned in this manual and on bass management, see your dealer or visit www.klipsch.com.

ÒLINE INÓ Ð This input is filtered by the built-in Low Pass (LP) crossover and is designed as a general purpose input for the subwoofer. (All Models)

ÒLINE OUTÓ Ð This sends a bass-filtered line level signal back to your electronics. (KSW-15 Only)

ÒSPEAKER OUTÓ Ð This passes the ÒSpeaker InÓ signal out to your left and right speakers with the bass frequencies below 100Hz removed. (KSW-12, KSW-15 Only)

ÒLFE INÓ Ð The optional ÒLFE InÓ jack should be connected to the filtered LFE (.1) subwoofer channel output of your digital surround electronics. This input is not filtered by the ÒLow PassÓ control. (KSW-15 Only)

ÒLOW PASS (LP) CROSSOVERÓ Ð The crossover allows the user to select the upper-frequency cutoff of the sub- woofer. The frequency is selectable from 40-120Hz. Frequencies above the set level are filtered out, allowing you to blend the subwooferÕs output into your main speakers. (All Models)

ÒLEVELÓ Ð The ÒLevelÓ control serves as an overall volume control for the subwoofer. It is used to match the output level of the sub to your main speakers. (All Models)

ÒPHASE 0/180Ó Ð This control is used to acoustically match the subwooferÕs output to your main speakers. You want to select one of the two positions, either 0 or 180, in which your sub has more output at your listening posi- tion. (All Models)

ÒPOWER OFF/AUTO/ONÓ Ð Selecting ÒAutoÓ allows the sub to turn on automatically when it senses an input signal. It will automatically turn off after 20 minutes with no signal input. Klipsch powered subwoofers have LEDÕs on the bottom of the front panel that indicates power status of the built-in amplifier. The LED will light RED when the ampli- fier is in standby mode, and GREEN when the amplifier is on and receiving a signal. (All Models)

CARE AND CLEANING OF YOUR POWERED SUBWOOFER

Your subwoofer has a durable vinyl finish that should only require dry dusting or cleaning with a damp cloth. Avoid the use of abrasive or solvent-based cleaners and harsh detergents. The brush attachment of your vacuum or a slight- ly damp sponge should remove any dust from your speaker grilles.
