4.Typetheseven-characterserialnumberofyourcomputerandthenpressEnter.
5.Whenpromptedtochangethemachinetype/model,pressY.
6.Typetheseven-charactermachinetype/modelofyourcomputerandthenpressEnter.
7.Followtheinstructionsonthescr eentocompletetheupdate.
RecoveringfromaPOST/BIOSupdatefailure
Attention
IfaninterruptionoccursduringaPOST/BIOSupdate(ashupdate),thecomputermightnotrestartcorr ectly.
Ifthisoccurs,performthefollowingprocedurecommonlycalledBoot-blockRecovery.
Note:Ifyourcomputerhasnointernaldiskettedrive,anoptionalUSBdiskettedrivemustbeconnectedto
usetheBIOSashdiskette.
1.Turnoffthecomputerandanyattacheddevices,suchasprinters,monitors,andexternaldrives.
2.Unplugallpowercordsfromelectricaloutlets,andopenthecomputercover.See“Openingthecover”
onpage68.
3.LocatetheClearCMOS/Recoveryjumperonthesystemboard.See“Systemboardlocations”on
page68.
4.RemoveanycablesthatimpedeaccesstotheClearCMOS/Recoveryjumper.
5.Movethejumperfromthestandardposition(pins1and2)topins2and3.
6.InsertthePOST/BIOSupdate(ash)disketteinthediskettedrive.
7.Closethecomput ercoverandreconnectanycablesthatweredisconnected.
8.Reconnectthepowercordsforthecomputerandmonitortoelectricaloutlets.
9.Turnonthecomputerandthemonitor.
10.Therecoverysessionwilltaketwotothreeminutes.Duringthistime,youwillhearaseriesofbeeps.
Aftertheupdatesessioniscompleted,theseriesofbeepsends.Therewillbenovideo,andthesystem
willautomaticallyturnoff.
11.Openthecomputercover,andmovetheClearCMOS/Recoveryjumperbacktotheoriginalpositions
(pins1and2).
12.RemovethePOST/BIOSashdiskettefromthediskettedrive.
13.Closethecomputercoverandreconnectanycablesthatweredisconnected.
14.Turnonthecomputertorestarttheoperatingsystem.

systempowersupply,processor,harddiskdrives,andsomemonitors.
