Thissectionprovidesinstructionsonhowtoopenthecomputercover.
1.Removeanymedia(diskettes,CDs,ortapes)fromthedrives,shutdownyouroperatingsystem,and
turnoffallattacheddevicesandthecomputer.
2.Unplugallpowercordsfromelectricaloutlets.
3.Disconnectthecablesattachedtothecomputer.Thisincludespowercords,input/output(I/O)cables,
andanyothercablesthatareconnectedtothecomputer.See“Connectorsonthefrontofthecomputer”
onpage65and“Connectorsontherearofthecomputer”onpage66.
4.Removeanylockingdevices,suchasacablelockthatsecuresthecomputercover.
5.Pressthecover-releasebuttononthesideofthecoverandpivotthecomputercoveroutward.
6.Ifthecomputercoveristoberemoved,disconnectallthecablesfromthesystemboard.
ReplacingtheCMOSbattery
ThisproceduredescribeshowtoremoveandreplacetheCMOSbattery.
IftheCMOSbatteryfails,thedate,time,andcongurationinformation(includingpasswords)arelost.An
errormessageisdisplayedwhenyouturnonthecomputer.
