Setting up serial printing
In serial printing, data is transferred one bit at a time. Although serial printing is usually slower than parallel printing,
it is the preferred option when there is a great deal of distance between the printer and computer or w hen an interface
with a better transfer rat e is not available.
After installing the serial port, you will need to configure the printer and the computer so the y can communicate.
Make sure you have connected the serial cable to the serial port on your printer.
1Set the parameters in the printer:
aFrom the printer control panel, navigate to the menu with port settings.
bLocate the submen u with serial po rt settings.
cMake any necessary chan ges to the serial se ttings.
dSave the new settings.
ePrint a menu settings page.
2Install the printer driver:
aInsert the Software and Documentation CD. It l aunches automa tically.
If the CD does not launch automatically, do one of the following:

In Windows Vista

1Click .
2In the Start Search box, type D:\setup.exe, where D is the letter of your CD or DVD drive.

In Windows XP and earlier

1Click Start.
2Click Run.
3Type D:\setup.exe, where D is the letter of your CD or DVD drive.
bClick Install Printer and Software.
cClick Agree to accept the Printer Software License Agreement.
dClick Custom.
eMake sure Select Components is selected, and then click Next.
fMake sure Local is selected, and then click Next.
gSelect the manufacturer of the printer from the menu.
hSelect the prin ter model from the menu, and th en click Add Prin ter.
iClick the + beside the printer model under Select Components.
jMake sure the correct port is available under Select Components . This is the port where the serial cable att aches
to the computer. If the correct port is not available, selec t the port under the Select Port menu, and then click
Add Port.
kMake any configuration changes necessary in the Add a New Port window. Click Add Port to finish adding
the port.
lMake sure the box next to the selected printer model is checked.
mSelect any other optional software you want to install, and th en click Next.
nClick Finish to complete the printer software installation.
