You’ll spend most of your time in Jam Control Mode, although you have the option of engaging one of the Alternate Footswitch Modes at any time, as outlined in the descriptions on the following pages. Here’s how the 4 switches operate in Jam Control Mode:
ARecord/Overdub – step on Record to begin recording your loop. If you start with a Song or Drum countoff, recording begins after the count. If you punch in while a track is playing, recording begins on the nearest beat. Overdub on an existing track at any time.
BPlay/Stop – this switch simply plays or stops your loop. On your first pass, when you initially record your loop, hitting Stop also sets your loop
CUndo – step on this switch to undo your last recording take. To clear a track, press and hold for a few seconds, then select Clear from the LCD menu and press Undo again.
DMode Switch – step on this switch and the JM4 enters Alternate Footswitch Mode. Hit it again within 1.5 seconds and you’ll toggle thru the 4 alternate modes. After 1.5 seconds of inactivity, it will remain in the currently selected mode. Return to Jam Control Mode by simply stepping on the switch again. This will exit the current mode and put you back where you started, so you’ll always be one switch away from controlling your loop.
