It is a network in which both the Media Center PC and Extender are connected to the wireless router via wireless. This type of network is not supported and may cause choppy video or frequent drop-outs. For best results, use an Ethernet network cable to connect either the Media Center PC or Extender to the wireless router.

It is one of the IEEE standards for wireless networks. The 802.11a standard allows wireless networking hardware from different manufacturers to communicate, provided that the hardware complies with the 802.11a standard.
