DActive D-Lighting

Noise (grains, banding, mottling) may appear in photographs taken with Active D-Lighting at high ISO sensitivities. The Brightness and Contrast Picture Control settings (pg. 111) can not be adjusted while active D-Lighting is in effect. In exposure mode M, an Active D-Lighting setting of Auto is equivalent to Normal.

D“Active D-Lighting” Versus “D-Lighting”

The Active D-Lightingoption in the shooting menu adjusts exposure before shooting to optimize the dynamic range, while the D-Lightingoption in the retouch menu optimizes dynamic range in images after shooting.

A ADL Bracketing

When ADL bracketing is selected for Custom Setting e4 (Auto bracketing set, pg. 191), the

camera will automatically vary Active D-Lighting over two photographs: the first will be taken

t

with the current setting for Active-D-Lighting, the second with Active D-Lighting off. See page

193 for more information.
