5. Basic Maintenance

Regularly cleaning the glass platten of the transparency unit will ensure that dirt or smudges will not reduce the quality of your scanned images. Before you clean the glass, make sure the scanner is turned off and the power cord is unplugged.

Be sure that nothing covers the calibration area. It is important to keep the calibration area clean, since dust or smudges on the glass will reduce the quality of scanned transparencies. Make sure the transparency fits within the scanning area (see below).

Do not leave transparencies on the glass platten of the scanner for excessive periods of time. The warmth of the scanner and transparency unit lamps may cause them to deteriorate.
