The output sound format can be changed according to your purpose and preference by changing the sound signal conversion method.

The sound signal conversion method is selected from among the three listed below. (Note that the three items are sound signal conversion methods, not the sound signal format the sound signals are converted into.)

When “Audio Out Select” is set to “Bitstream,” the sound is output in the most suitable format automatically through the speakers and output connector/jacks. Therefore, although you can change the sound signal conversion method using the menu, leaving the “Audio Out Select” setting to “Bitstream” and changing the method according your purpose temporarily as described on page 46 is recommended.

Bitstream

Normally use this setting.

96k Sound

Select when you wish to listen to sources recorded in the following frequency/quantization bit in their original sound quality:

96 kHz/24 bit

96 kHz/20 bit

96 kHz/16 bit

48 kHz/24 bit

Dynamic Range Control

DVD

 

Off: Full dynamic range is maintained.

On: Dynamic range is reduced.

Notes

This function works only with playback of Dolby Digital recorded discs.

The level of Dynamic Range Reduction may differ depending on the DVD video.

Karaoke Vocal

DVD

 

The vocal output feature is used during playback of Dolby Digital (multichannel) recorded DVD KARAOKE discs. This feature allows you to turn off vocal audio tracks, or restore them for background accompaniment.

Off: The primary vocal is not output.

On: The primary vocal is output if it is recorded on the disc.

Extended Audio Feature

DVD

 

Some DVD videos contain a narration track for visually impaired persons. The DVD Receiver automatically plays the narration track by setting this item to “On.”

Off: The narration track is not played.

On: The narration track is played automatically.

PCM

Select to convert DOLBY DIGITAL sound into the sound format recordable by equipment such as an MD recorder connected to the DIGITAL OUTPUT (OPT) connector on the DVD Receiver (see pages 11 and 47).
