This allows for the reproduction of dynamic and detailed sound, making every cinematic experience feel more lifelike. The system supports various surround sound formats, including Dolby Atmos and DTS:X, which add a vertical dimension to audio, enveloping listeners in three-dimensional soundscapes. This is particularly advantageous in action-packed films or when experiencing finely engineered soundtracks.

The system includes a robust set of speakers designed to work in harmony with the receiver. The surround sound speaker package features a sleek subwoofer and compact satellite speakers that deliver crystal-clear highs and thundering lows. The subwoofer, in particular, enhances the overall audio experience with deep, rich bass that can be felt as much as it is heard.

One of the prominent features of the Onkyo HT-S990THX is its Audyssey room calibration technology.
