DB25 Power Cable (3305-72)

The cable used to connect the NGIS tool to the data link connector (DLC) of a vehicle’s electronic control unit (ECU) depends on the type of vehicle being tested. The two most common cables are shown below. They are the System Smart 25-pin cable (3305-73) and the DB25 power cable (3305-72). An optional extension cable may also be used.

Note: The Air Bag / ABS software tells you which cable must be used for the vehicle you are testing. For details, refer to “Step 1: Enter the Vehicle Information” on page 13.

The System Smart 25-pin cable is for On Board Diag- nostic II (OBD ll) vehicles. The cable has the following components:

Item 1 J-1962 Connector - connects to the data link connec- tor (DLC) of the vehicle’s electronic control unit.

Item 2 System Smart Insert (SSI) - inserts into the port on the top of the 25-pin connector. There are several SSIs available (some are 3306-11,3306-15, 3306- 22). The SSI used depends on the vehicle being tested.

Item 3 25-pin Male Connector - connects to the DB25 port on the top of the NGIS tool. The 25-pin connector has a port on the top of it for inserting a System Smart Insert (SSI).

The DB25 power cable is for non-OBD ll vehicles and some OBD II vehicles. The cable has the following components:

Item 1 8-Pin Adapter Connector - connects to the correct adapter for the vehicle being tested. (Refer to “Vehicle Adapters” on page 4.) The adapter then connects to the data link connector (DLC) of the vehicle’s electronic control unit.

Item 2 Power Plug - inserts into the vehicle’s cigarette lighter receptacle. An optional Battery Adapter (212638) can be used to connect to the vehicle’s battery instead of the cigarette lighter receptacle. (Refer to “Battery Adapter (212638)” on page 5.)

Item 3 25-pin Male Connector - connects to the DB25 port on the top of the NGIS tool.

An optional extension cable (3305-71) is available. The cable has the following connectors:

Item 1 25-pin Female Connector - connects to the 25-pin male connector on the System Smart 25-pin cable, the DB25 power cable, or any other 25-pin cable being used.

Item 2 25-pin Male Connector - connects to the DB25 port on the top of the NGIS tool.
