A BIT OF HISTORY…

Twenty years ago the digital information era began and microcomputing made its entry into homes in the form of a new machine: the PC. Today new, entirely digital media are making their appearance in homes (game consoles, DVD players, MP3 players, etc.) while "standard" home equipment also becomes more digitised (cameras, camcorders, stereo systems, televisions, etc.).

At the same time the growing success of high-speed connections (ADSL, cable, etc.) and the deve- lopment of mobile technologies (miniaturisation of components, wireless connections, etc.) are speeding up demand for increasingly varied services.
