Playing discs

Throughout this manual, the term “DVD” means DVD-Video and DVD-R/RW. If a function is specific to a particular kind of DVD disc, it is specified.

1If the player isn’t already on, press STANDBY/ON to switch it on.

If you’re playing a DVD or Video CD, also turn on your TV and make sure that it is set to the correct video input.

2Press / (stop, open/close) to open the disc tray.3Load a disc.

Load a disc with the label side facing up, using the disc tray guide to align the disc.

Never load more than one disc at a time.

4Press PLAY/PAUSE  to start playback. If you’re playing a DVD or Video CD, a menu may appear. See DVD-Video disc menus on page 29 and Video CD PBC menus on page 29 for more on how to navigate these.

Basic playback controls

The table below shows the basic controls on the remote for playing discs. The following chapter covers more playback features in more detail.

Button

What it does

Starts playback.

Pauses a disc that’s playing, or restarts a paused disc.

/

Stops playback.

 

Open/close the disc tray.

 

 



Press and hold for fast reverse

 

scanning; press for previous

 

track/chapter skip.

Press and hold for fast forward scanning; press for next track/chapter skip.

Numbers

Use to enter a title/track number.
