WARNING:The muffler on this prod-

Asyourunit is used, carbondeposits build up
onthe mufflerand spark arresting screen.
Fornormal homeowner use, however, the
mufflerandspark arresting screen willnot re-
quire any service. After 50 hours of use, we
recommend thatyourmuffler be serviced or
replacedby yourauthorized service dealer.

CARBURETOR IDLE SPEED

ADJUSTMENT

WARNING: Keepothers away when
makingidle speedadjustments. The blade
willbe movingduring most of this procedure.
Wearyour protective equipment andobserve
alls afety precautions. Whenmakingadjust-
ments, use a screwdriver short enough to
keep yourhandsbehind the handguard and
away from theblade. Aftermakingadjust-
ments,theblade must not move at idle speed.
The carburetor hasbeenc arefully set at the
factory.Adjustments maybe necessary if y ou
notice any of the following conditions:
Engine willnotidle when the throttle is re-
leased.
Theblademoves at idle.
Keepothersaway when makingidle speed ad-
justments.Makeadjustmentswiththe unit rest-
ingon a levelsurfacefree of debris that canbe
caughtinthehedge trimmerblade. Seriousinju-
ry to theoperator and otherscan occur if the
carburetoris not properly adjusted. Keepall
parts ofyour body away from the blade and
muffler.

Toadjus t idle speed:

Allowengine to idle. Adjust speeduntil engine
runswithoutblade moving(idletoo fast) oren-
gines talling (idle speedtoo slow).
Turn idle speedscrew clockwise to in-
creaseengine speed if engine stalls or dies.
Turnidle speedscrew counterclockwise to
decreaseengine speed if the blade moves
atidle.
WARNING: Recheck the idle speed
after each adjustment. The blade must not
move at idle speed to avoid seriousinjury to
theoperatororothers.

on the blade.

1. Cleanthe cover andthe areaaround it to
keepdebrisfrom fallinginto the carburetor
chamberwhen the cov er is removed.
2. Removeparts as illustrated.

NOTE:Donot cleanfilter in gasolineor other

flammablesolvent. Doing so can createafire
hazardor produce harmful evaporative emis-
sions.
3. Washthe filter in soapand water.
4. Allowfilter to dry.
