Back of printouts
are dirty
• The transfer roller may be dirty. See “Cleaning the Inside of
the Printer” on page 6.31.
• Check for leaking toner. Clean the inside of the printer.
Color or Black
pages
• The imaging unit may not be installed properly. Remove the
imaging unit and reinsert.
• The imaging unit may be defective and need replacing. Install
a new imaging unit.
• The printer may require repairing. Contact a service
representative.
Loose toner
• Clean the inside of the printer.
• Check the paper type and quality. See “Paper Specifications”
on page G.4.
• Install a new toner cartridge. See “Replacing the Toner
Cartridges” on page 6.8.
• If the problem persists, the printer may require repairing.
Contact a service representative.
Character Voids
Character voids are white areas within parts of characters that
should be solid black:
• If you are using transparencies, try another type of
transparency. Due to the composition of the transparency,
some character voids are normal.
• You may be printing on the wrong surface on the paper.
Remove the paper and turn it around.
• The paper may not meet paper specifications. See page G.4.
Horizontal stripes
If horizontally aligned color or black streaks or smears appear:
• The imaging unit may be installed improperly. Remove the
imaging unit and reinsert.
• The imaging unit may be defective. Install a new imaging unit.
See “Replacing the Imaging Unit” on page 6.14.
• If the problem persists, the printer may require repairing.
