12.2 Transporting on Public Roadways
Extreme caution should be used when transporting the tractor and mower on public roadways. The tractor must be equipped with all required safety warning features including a SMV emblem and flashing warning lights to alert drivers of the tractor’s presence. Remember that roadways are primarily designed for automotive drivers and most drivers will not be looking out for you, therefore, you must look out for them. Check your side view mirrors frequently and remember that vehicles will approach quickly because of the tractor’s slower speed. Be extremely cautious when the piece of equipment that you are towing is wider than the tractor tire width and/or extends beyond your lane of the road.
Make sure that a proper size safety tow chain is secured between the tractor, flex arm and mower before entering a public road. Secure the center section at a safe transport height by placing additional stroke control spacers on the center axle cylinder and then lower the mower. Secure the mower wings in the raised position with the transport lock braces.
Only tow the Implement behind a properly sized and equipped Tractor which exceeds the weight of the Implement by at least 20%. DO NOT tow the Implement behind a truck or other type of vehicle. Never tow the Implement and another Implement connected in tandem. Never tow the Implement at speeds over 20 MPH.
Never allow children or other persons to ride on the Tractor or Implement.
Falling off can result in serious injury or death.
Make certain that the “Slow Moving Vehicle” (SMV) sign is installed in such a way as to be clearly visible and legible. When transporting the Equipment use the Tractor flashing warning lights and follow all local traffic regulations.
